El drama de una familia desmembrada que cuenta con potencia El desentierro descansa en gran parte en las actuaciones de sus dos protagonistas que, a partir de pocos elementos, construyen complejos retratos cargados de humanidad.

Claudia Schujman and Roberto Chanampa, the main charachters of El desentierro (The Unearthing) by Claudio Perrín (Argentina). The drama of a family that is falling apart that is told during El desentierro relies heavily on the expert acting of its two main characters who, using very few elements, construct complex portraits of their characters that are charged with humanity.

La otra Penélope (The Other Penelope), de Bladimir Abud (República Dominicana/Dominican Republic)

Un cuidadoso diseño de producción se combina con una gran historia y un ajustado guion, potenciado por buenas actuaciones. Todo esto hace de La otra Penélope una película potente y sólida.

A very careful production design combined with a great story and tight script, is brought to life by very good performances by its actors.  All this makes The Other Penélope a powerful and solid film.

Los realizadores logran acercarse a su personaje, Carlos Rota, y revelar su interioridad, su ser, con absoluta autenticidad. El hombre que siempre hizo su parte se convierte en un documento del paso de un hombre por el mundo, con todas sus contradiccciones.

The filmmakers manage to get close to their character, Carlos Rota, and reveal his inner-self, his being, with absolute authenticity. The Man Who Always Did His Part becomes the documentation of the trajectory of a man through life, with all of its contradictions.

A partir de la experimentación y yuxtaponiendo múltiples subtitulados y voz en off, el realizador encuentra una forma propia y única de contar su historia personal que es, a la vez, una carta de amor a sus dos ciudades: Nueva York y Buenos Aires.

Through experimentation and juxtaposing multiple subtitles and voices on off, the filmmaker finds his own unique manner of telling his personal story which is, at the same time, a love letter to his two cities: New York and Buenos Aires.

Through a simple and modest proposal, the film highlights the story of a transgender women who suffered all kinds of violence on her way to achieving the happiness of living her own identity. With valor and sensitivity Maria Luiza becomes the voice of a whole community.

Two musicians in a town, during a full-blown election campaign, discover that they have to modernize themselves or they will disappear. We highlight it as an example of superb filmmaking.

Las actrices encarnan extraordinariamente a madre e hija enfrentadas en una escena familiar en la que estallan rencores del pasado, y un dolor en ambas que lejos de haber mermado con el tiempo, se ha agudizado.

The two female actors bring to life the conflict between a mother and her daughter in an extraordinary fashion during a family scene where past resentments explode, as well as the pain felt by them both, that instead of having diminished with time, has only grown sharper.

Waka, de Karen Guazco and Alex Macas (Ecuador)

Waka posee una calidad asombrosa tomando en cuenta el hecho de que se trata de un corto de estudiante. El relato es bello y eficaz, y la directora se revela como una artista de quien esperar grandes trabajos.

Waka possesses a surprising quality considering that it is a student’s short film. The story is beautiful and efficient, and the director reveals herself to be an artist from whom we can expect great films in the future.

Atardecer en el trópico (Twighlight in the Tropics), de Marta María Borrás (Cuba)

Destacamos la propuesta de este corto cubano, por abordar una historia cargada de melancolía pero lejos de los estereotipos, con una mirada existencial y humana.

We call attention to the design of this Cuban short because it tackles a story that is full of melancholy yet far from being stereotypical.  Its perspective is existencialist and very humane.

La película revela una historia secreta unida a la defensa de la tierra y de la identidad, de la mano de un personaje que relata con lucidez hechos relacionados a la extracción del caucho y la lucha contra la devastación en medio de la selva.

The film reveals a secret story  tied to the defense of the land and identity, that is revealed by a character who lucidly narrates facts pertaining to the extraction of rubber and  the fight against devastation from within the jungle.

La Flaca (The Bony Lady), de Adriana Barbosa y Thiago Zanato (Estados Unidos, Brasil y México)(US, Brazil and Mexico)

El film cuenta la historia de redención de Arely Vázquez, una mujer trans que busca salir adelante organizando eventos de culto a la Santa Muerte. En este falso documental los realizadores logran un relato hipnótico construido con bellas imágenes.  

The film tells the story of redemption of Arely Vázquez, a transexual woman that seeks to move forward by organizing events for the cult to Sacred Death. In this false documentary the filmmakers achieve a hypnotic story that was constructed with beautiful images.
